Hail to the Muscle Gods!

Who's ready for another post dedicated to the over-the-knee backbreaker?  I could probably do about fifty posts on this wrestling move, but I'll just stop at two for now.  I drew upon the image of a "muscle god" in my last post to refer to a wrestler who likes to sacrifice his opponent over the knee.  As I look over these two posts, I realize there are so many muscle gods in wrestling.  It's such a popular move that you see it in all the underground wrestling companies I like to follow.  On this page alone we got Rock Hard Wrestling, Muscleboy Wrestling, Wrestler4Hire, 88 Wrestling, Thunders Arena, and NRW Wrestling.  The new Weekend Wrestling absolutely loves the OTK backbreaker, and at Untamed Creations (which I just started following recently), those boys are breaking backs all over the place!

And looking at these photos I see so many of my favorite wrestlers doing the move.  I have to say that Scrappy is one of the best at breaking backs, but guys like Tanner Hill (aka Cena), Dante, and Cody Nelson always impress when they do it, too.  And I love the first pic in this post where Jake Jenkins plays muscle god by breaking Austin Cooper's back.  Cooper is no slouch himself in the world of wrestling, but it just goes to show that even muscleboys can find themselves sacrificed to muscle gods.

Backbreaker Monday

It's (almost) Monday and time to prepare ourselves for the drudgery of the work week.  This Backbreaker Monday is brought to you by No Rules Wrestling, featuring Matt Meadlock breaking in new wrestler Luca Rossi.  Luca seems to be suffering through a day at the office about as well can be expected for any Monday.  But hey, we all got to make a living somehow.

Tis the Season for Wrestling

Most people think of early December as the start of the Christmas season, but for many high school and college athletes around the country, it's the beginning of wrestling season!  This fact is not lost on Matt Meadlock and Lorenzo Smalls at No Rules Wrestling.  Recently the two dudes strapped on singlets and jumped into the ring for a good old fashion freestyle wrestling match.  Here we see Matt Meadlock being aggressive, scoring two points with a nice takedown.  Then he goes on to expose Lorenzo for backpoints, earning three more points with the move (funny, I don't remember OTK backbreakers being legal when I was in school).  It's short time Lorenzo!  Work the escape!

On another topic, while the temps are getting cold up here in the States, things are heating up in Singapore.  Our good buddies Andruew Tang and Destroyer Dharma (along with their stablemate Trexxus) are primed for action at Singapore Pro Wrestling this weekend with Wrestle the Odds II.   Too bad I'm over 9000 miles away, or I'd be there to watch the combat.  These guys are not lacking in confidence and look tough to beat.  I can hardly wait to see how things turn out for our heroes.

November to Remember

Every year No Rules Wrestling puts on its November to Remember series which features a new video every day of the month.  Several of the matches this year show Matt Meadlock wrestling Surfer Slim.  Meadlock is a longtime wrestler at NRW, but Surfer Slim is a new face.  NRW promotes Slim as a ripped young fighter who shows promise and can take quite a beating.  I'm not sure about the showing promise part, but here Slim does take quite a beating in a spine torture match.  In my book there's no better way to torture another dude's spine than with an OTK backbreaker.  Well done, Meadlock.

If the NRW bosses are reading this, can we see Lorenzo Smalls deliver some spine busting punishment on Slim, too?

Double Team

A time honored tradition in wrestling is the double team.  Get two dudes together to direct all their aggression against a third guy.  Usually the lone wrestler ends up taking a beating (although not always like we see here).  You can find several of these matchs at No Rules Wrestling, including one where alpha stud Tiki Pepper teams up with Matt Meadlock to take on Reggie.  Of course, with Tiki on one side of the double team, there's little doubt about where the beatdown is going to occur.  Tiki looks especially alpha in this match up since he's a lot bigger than Meadlock and Reggie.  You can easily imagine him taking on and demolishing Meadlock and Reggie on his own (see here if you don't want to imagine).  But Meadlock does a good job, too.  Despite his relatively small size, he does an impressive job of being an alpha wrestler in this match, punishing Reggie with bodyslams and other power moves.  Meadlock sets the pace and Tiki follows along.  And there's also plenty here for you bearhug fans to like, because both Tiki and Meadlock really do a good job of showing off some great alpha wrestling moves in this match.

Maybe I should start calling this the Bodyslam and Bearhug Fan blog.  Anyway, let's give a big hand to Tiki Pepper for taking the time to appear in my blog this month.  You're welcome back anytime, Tiki!

Tiki Pepper

Not long ago I had a post about Tiki Pepper at No Rules Wrestling tossing around a really little dude named Skeeter.  I think you guys enjoyed seeing this stud in action, so here you go with some more wrestling pictures.  Tiki had some matches against longtime NRW wrestler Matt Meadlock who probably offers a better match up than Skeeter since he comes in at 5'10" and 165 pounds.  But Tiki is a big dude at 210 pounds, so it still doesn't take much effort on his part to dominate Meadlock.  These photos come from a match called Slam School where, you guessed it, Tiki uses Meadlock as a wrestling dummy to practice his bodyslams.  One thing I like about NRW is how they sometimes produce a video that features a particular wrestling move over and over again.  It should come as no surprise that I like the bodyslam ones.  Tiki looks spectacular as he repeatedly lifts and slams Meadlock.  I wish I could offer my services to NRW and have Tiki practice on me.

The NRW website calls Tiki an "exotic" wrestler from the Carribean who has disappered but is welcome back.  This dude is truly alpha and I hope he reappears in the ring someday soon.  Like any good alpha wrestler, Tiki knows other power moves as well.  NRW says forget about it if Tiki slaps on a bearhug, so that must be his signature move.  Even in the Slam School video, Meadlock has to endure some awesome looking bearhugs.  Bodyslams and bearhugs.  It doesn't get much more alpha than that.

Back to School

It's back to school time, and not just for all the boys and girls in the neighborhood.  Even wrestlers need to get their education, and No Rules Wrestling has a couple of new students eager to learn the ropes.  Who better to teach them than professor Dave Calbrese?  The first two pics above show Calbrese teaching Master Chase a thing or two, and the other pics feature Sean Quick learning the hard way what life is like in the NRW schoolyard, better known as the wrestling ring.  Master Chase appears to be about the same size as Calbrese, but that doesn't prevent him from getting tossed about by the professor.  In contrast, Sean Quick is a pretty small dude who gives up at least forty pounds to his teacher.  The size disparity really shows when Calbrese does arm curls with his student.  Maybe Calbrese assumes the role of bully here instead of the teacher.  It's a tough lesson for the little guy, but it's not his first at NRW.  Quick also received some instruction from a wrestler closer to his size in the form of Matt Meadlock, but seems he didn't fare so well in that class either.

Looks like the education of Sean Quick will be long and arduous.  And seriously, dudes, Matt Meadlock looks like a total beast here.  Fucking awesome.

Wrestler in Blue Jeans

One thing to love about wrestling is that the gear is simple.  You can pretty much wear anything you want (so long as you're not in any official competition).  It seems like most of the online wrestling producers like to outfit their wrestlers in briefs and posers, but sometimes you see them in larger trunks and squarecuts.  I tend to prefer to see trunks and squarecuts on wrestlers because I think it makes them look more like jocks and athletes.  Recently No Rules Wrestling produced a match with Matt Meadlock and Lorenzo Smalls wrestling in blue jeans.  I highly approve.  Shirtless and blue jeans is very masculine, especially if you can get your opponent in a sick looking crotchlift for an otk backbreaker like Meadlock does here.

NRW also just released several matches with its wrestlers clad only in Under Armour shorts.  I'd have to say that right now Under Armour shorts are my favorite gear for wrestling.  One of the Under Armour matches again features Meadlock and Lorenzo.  From the preview, I can't tell if there are any bodyslams, but even if there aren't, this match still may be well worth the price of admission.
