Alex Silva

My dad wrestled in high school, so that's why he got me into the sport when I was a kid.  That's how a lot of guys get into wrestling.  It can be a family thing, even in pro wrestling.  Canadian Alex Silva is the son of a pro wrestler known as Tommy Rose, and Silva followed his father's footsteps into the wrestling ring.  Here we see him showing some pretty good technique executing a bodyslam during a recent match at Ohio Valley Wrestling.

Calling Down the Thunder

Thunders Arena has been advertising a lot of "Big vs Little" matches lately.  I think one reason I like TA is because it often features big muscle dudes who like to show off by gorilla pressing and bodyslamming smaller muscle dudes.  Of course, none of this could take place if it weren't for the smaller muscle dudes who allow themselves to be gorilla pressed and bodyslammed.  In the top two pictures we see Tak sacrificing his body for the entertainment of others.  A couple of the newer wrestling matches at TA feature another small guy, Hooper, who we see in the second two photos.  It looks like Tak has got some competition.

Mason Delivers

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm not a big follower of WWE anymore.  But that doesn't mean WWE has nothing good to offer.  One dude worth a special look is Welsh wrestler Mason Ryan.  At 6' 5" and 285 pounds, he's even bigger than Chris Masters.  I like wrestlers like Mason Ryan and Chris Masters.  There are a lot of guys out there with big muscles, but Ryan and Masters know that it's how you use your muscles, like in a wrestling match to dominate another dude, that makes you a real man.

Chris Masters

Here is Chris Masters doing what Chris Masters does best.  He came onto the WWE scene just about the time I was losing interest in WWE, so I never really followed his career that much.  I understand from Bruno's blog that he's been released from WWE, but he still continues to wrestle for indy promotions.  At 6'4" and 265 pounds, Masters looks pretty impressive.  I wonder if we can get him in the ring against Rob Terry.

Now, time to go out and celebrate the Tigers winning the pennant.

Submission Wrestling

Here are some more pictures from the wrestling match between Master Kevin and Bryce.  We see more of Kevin's cocky attitude and how it enhances the bodyslam experience.  I like the way Kevin inverts Bryce's body and stares him down before the slam.  It's more evidence of what a bad ass Master Kevin is in the wrestling ring.  But I also like the first two pictures where Bryce just stands there, offering himself, submitting to Kevin's will.  Maybe Bryce knows that he's no match for Kevin and there's no use opposing him.  Or maybe he's thinking "Dude, just get it over with so I can get my money and go home" once the video shoot is completed.  Whatever it is, I think it's great that dudes are willing to offer up their own bodies in a wrestling match to make the other guy look like a stud.

Camel Clutch

Of course the main theme of my blog is the bodyslam, but it's nice to mix things up every once in a while and show something different.  There are other ways to dish out back punishment than a bodyslam or backbreaker or shoulder rack.  If you just feel too tired to hoist your opponent up for one more slam, sit on his back and work him into a good camel clutch.  I love the last photo.  It looks like two buddies wrestling over control of the remote.  I bet the dude in the t-shirt wins every time.

Thanksgiving

Today Thanksgiving is celebrated in Canada.  Probably few of us in the U.S. realize that in addition to turkey, Canadians traditionally feast on pro wrestling this day.  So here's a Thanksgiving tribute to the wrestlers of Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling.  The banquet starts off with Jamie Diaz slamming Matt Xstatic, followed by the next course where Pete Powers sends Alex Plexis flying.  Scotty Mac provides the main course with a big serving of bodyslam on Andy Bird.  And finally, the meal ends with dessert as Sid Sylum tosses Gurv Sihra around.  Happy Thanksgiving to our fellow wrestlers and wrestling fans north of the border.

Professor Rob

This is my 100th post of the year, so what better wrestler to feature than the king of bodyslams, Rob Terry?  In prior blog posts, we've seen what Tristan Archer and Master Kevin can teach us about the bodyslam.  What can we learn from Rob Terry?  Basically, the lesson is that you don't give a shit about your opponent.  Rob Terry just wants to destroy them.  Being a bodybuilder wrestler weighing over 300 pounds, if Rob Terry was concerned about the well being of his opponents, he'd never get anything done.  But even relatively puny mortals like us should follow his approach.  To be successful in wrestling, you can't be timid and worry about what happens to the other dude.  If you don't devote all your efforts to completely take him apart, then he's going to do it to you.

Master Kevin

A couple of months ago Tristan Archer demonstrated for us how to do a quality bodyslam.  Our new buddy Master Kevin also gives us good instruction on the bodyslam in his wrestling match against an overmatched Bryce at Muscle Domination Wrestling.  With Tristan we learned good technique.  Kevin has good technique, too, but what he best teaches us here is how attitude can make an already awesome bodyslam totally devastating.  You can especially see it in the second and third photos above where Kevin is well on his way to humiliating Bryce.  What's so great is that, instead of just slamming Bryce, Kevin is holding him there and talking some smack.  Bryce already knows he's in a bad situation having been crotchlifted by Kevin.  The slam is coming, and the anticipation is killing him.  But Kevin prolongs the agony not only by holding Bryce there and squeezing some ass, but also by dishing out some verbal abuse.  This is how a badass does a bodyslam.  The exclamation point is the end when, having slammed Bryce, Kevin lets out a primal scream and flexes his muscles over his broken opponent.  A bodyslam like this brings the alpha wrestler to the peak of his excitement.  Your blood is pumping.  You're full of testosterone and adrenaline and craving more of that sweaty muscle-on-muscle body contact.  No matter how exhausted you were moments before, you find yourself feeling stronger than ever and ready to bodyslam that sad example of masculinity lying before you another twenty times.

Muscle Domination Wrestling

This week I came across another Internet wrestling site called Muscle Domination Wrestling, so of course I had to check it out.  Unlike wrestlers at Rock Hard Wrestling and Thunders Arena, you won't see a bunch of pretty boy model types wrestling around at MDW.  But if you like it when alpha male muscle jocks beat up on each other, then MDW has a lot to offer.  For every wrestling video website, there's always at least one wrestler who stands out for me, such as Austin Cooper at RHW, Dominic at TA, and Dave Calbrese at No Rules Wrestling.  At MDW, that wrestler is Master Kevin, seen above as he crotchlifts his jobber (Damien Rush, I think) on the way to a brutal slam (check out the match preview here).  Master Kevin is lean and muscular.  He's got a cocky grin and an arrogant attitude.  Clearly he takes pleasure at bringing the pain to his opponents.  These are all qualities you want in a wrestler.  And best of all, Master Kevin likes to scoop dudes up and slam the shit out of them on the way to humiliating them in the wrestling ring.  Why else would I be featuring him on this blog?  I hope we see a lot more of this dude in action.

Euro Bash

Here's Tristan Archer getting his slam on during a recent match at a promotion in Holland called Pro Wrestling Showdown.  He's wrestling against Dutch wrestler Sean Lucas, and it looks like Lucas gets in some good moves himself.  I hope this match gets posted to You Tube at some point because I'd like to see how these two dudes take each other on.
