Sommerzeit

In my last post we saw Mark Angel enjoying summertime, but he's not the only one who gets to partake of the nice weather.  It's summer in Europe, too, so let's check in on Austrian wrestler Mexxberg to see how he spends this time of year. He's working his muscles pretty good with all those overhead presses, but it looks like he's so spent physically when he's done that he can't even lift a spoon to feed himself.

Summertime

It's summertime, and Mark Angel seems to be making the best of the warm weather by strutting around shirtless with a beer in each hand.  It's good to see that he's not "all work and no play", although I do appreciate is work.

Making a Come Back

During his first run with Ohio Valley Wrestling, Marcus Anthony was the king of the gorilla press.  When he recently returned to OVW after a year's hiatus, he was pretty good at dishing out bodyslams, but we didn't see him pressing other wrestlers overhead like he had done in the past.  Of course that was fine with me.  I love seeing a muscle dude scooping up and slamming the shit out of lesser opponents, but also it's hard to not get excited about a good gorilla press.  In a recent match, Marcus Anthony gets back into the groove of things by pressing up another dude as he continues to reintegrate himself into life at OVW.  All we need now is for Marcus to grow out his faux hawk, and it will be like he never left.

Gorilla Press Glory

I know a lot of guys who follow this blog are fans of the gorilla press.  If you haven't come across it yet, you should check out this Youtube channel which has several compilations of the king of all pro wrestling moves.  These screen caps are just a few of the hundreds of gorilla presses you will see in these videos.  Many of the wrestlers will be well known to you, like Chris Masters in the second pic, Mark Angel in the third, and Mexxberg in the fourth, but the guy who has put these compilations together has gone far and wide to locate gorilla presses performed by wrestlers from even the most remote federations.  He's done the hard work, so all you have to do is just sit back and enjoy.  I think the last picture in the set above is my favorite.  It's hard to beat a muscleboy on muscleboy gorilla press.

Happy Dude

When Marcus Anthony went to Florida Championship Wrestling, he fell off my radar screen for over a year, so I definitely was glad to see him return to Ohio Valley Wrestling.  But how does Marcus feel about being back?  I think the big smile on his face in these photos answers that question.  After all, he's got huge muscles and can put them to work by scooping up and bodyslamming all the dudes that are at his disposal at OVW.  Why wouldn't he be happy?

Random Slamness

Here's a collection of some good looking bodyslams.  Even though I have titled this post random, there actually is a common theme to all of them.  It's how the alpha wrestler holds his opponent almost vertical right before the slam.  I've been in this position before, and you know your body is about to hit the floor.  Often it's a pretty quick motion when a dude picks up his opponent, inverts him so his legs are over his head, and then dumps him onto his back.  But the really good wrestlers will hold you there for a moment or two to let you contemplate your predicament, and then just when you think you can't take the anticipation anymore, you get bodyslammed.

For the Love of Sport

It's the anticipation you feel just before the match starts.  It's the adrenaline flowing through your system.  The muscles and sweat.  The body on body contact.  The takedowns and tilts and crotchlifts and bodyslams.  It's having your arm raised in victory at the end.  These are the reasons why I love wrestling.

Mike Rollins

So a couple of days ago I paid tribute to July Fourth and American Independence, but back on July 1, I failed to honor our friends to the north on Canada Day.  I hope it's not too late, but in honor of Canada Day, I decided to dedicate today's post to Canadian wrestler Mike Rollins, who competes in various federations in Ontario.  To see more pics of him in action, check out Bruno's blog at Beefcakes of Wrestling.
