Boys From the Golden Age

Our fan favorite Vinny Trevino is back in another video from BG East.  This time we find our Italian stallion hanging out with BG East uber stud Justin Pierce.  The two agree that Justin has better wrestling technique while Vinny is the brawler.  Having both been beaten down by Mikey Vee, they decide they can improve their skills in the ring if they cross train each other.  Sounds simple enough, but as the two practice, Justin finds himself getting a little carried away.  In demonstrating some of his wrestling moves and holds, Justin gets Vinny into a submission, keeping it longer than necessary.  Then after the two don gloves for Vinny's tutorial on boxing, an overly eager Justin gets in some cheap shots on Vinny while the Italian has his back turned, and then he needlessly takes Vinny down with a drop toe hold.  As the video progresses, Vinny is like a simmering pot, becoming increasingly annoyed with Justin.  And, as expected, Vinny finally reaches his boiling point and blows.  Our Italian stud launches in on Justin with a flurry of punches and finally lays Justin out flat for the ten count.

It's not until after Vinny flattens Justin that the wrestling match begins, which is thirty minutes into the video.  By now having punched Justin's lights out, Vinny is determined to prove he's a two sport star as he proceeds to demolish Justin with several high powered wrestling moves.  And in the end as you can see below, Justin finds himself once more laid out on the mat, thoroughly defeated, a loser in both boxing and wrestling at the hands of Vinny Trevino.

One thing that strikes me while watching this video is the quality of talent BG East had available at the time it produced this match back around 2003.  Both Vinny Trevino and Justin Pierce are spectacular, but the quality doesn't end with just these two studs.  Around that time, BG East had an amazing stable of wrestlers on its roster, including guys like Rio Garza, Mikey Vee, Mike Columbo, Blaze, a young Braden Charron, Jed Jamison, Brad Rochelle, and on and on and on.  It truly was the Golden Age for wrestling at BG East.

Don't quit your day job, Justin!

No Respect

My last post with the flashback on Mr Destiny got me thinking about other wrestlers and wrestling matches from the past.  And that got me thinking about Vinny Trevino, a wrestler at BG East many years ago who captured my attention around the time I began my exciting journey into this mysterious world of underground wrestling.  I remember liking Vinny from the start for many reasons, one being his name.  Back in high school there was this one wrestler on another team named Vinny who caught my attention one season.  A swarthy Italian, he clearly stood out from the rest of us corn fed Midwestern white boys.  I always wanted to wrestle him, but we were different weight classes, so it never happened.

I also liked Vinny Trevino from the start because of his looks.  With his dark hair, olive complexion, masculine features, and incredible physique, he was the epitome of health and fitness.  Make him a wrestler on top of all that, and Vinny Trevino is hard to beat.

Vinny Trevino only wrestled in about seven or so matches at BG East.  Not enough for my taste, of course, but enough to create a body of work that we can appreciate.  Here is Vinny in a match against Brandon Aldrich called Clobber the Jobber.  Whenever there is a jobber, there also has to be a heel, and Vinny shines in this match as the heel.  Like I said not long ago about Iván Guerrero, I like my heels to be good looking, hunky wrestlers.  And that's what we get in Vinny Trevino.  But there's also another ingredient for a great heel, and that's a cocky attitude.  Vinny exudes cockiness in this match, and he does so by showing absolutely no respect for Brandon.  At the start, our jobber boy shows a little attitude himself, but after losing a test of strength to Vinny in the first minute, Brandon is reduced to a sniveling, whining bitch, which is the role Vinny forces him to play for the rest of the match.  No respect!  Early in the match, Vinny lays his muscular body across Brandon's pale, lumpy torso and begins to count off the pin.  But after two, Vinny grabs Brandon by the hair and pulls his shoulders off the mat.  The heel says not yet!  He's got to earn his pay and make the match entertaining.  No respect!  Vinny scoops Brandon up high with a crotchlift, getting a big handful of the jobber's shorts, baring his ass, before delivering a massive bodyslam.  No respect!  Vinny humiliates Brandon by parading him around the ring with the groaning jobber in a sick torture rack.  No respect!  Vinny constantly stands over the blubbering Brandon, flexing his muscles, showing off his physique, barking orders at him.  No respect!  Vinny forces Brandon to participate in a boxing match with real gloves, only so Vinny can pound his abs into oblivion.  No respect!  Vinny pours ice water down Brandon's trunks.  No respect!  Vinny manhandles Brandon with repeated gutbusters while the jobber cries for mercy.  No respect!

And the final indignity comes with Vinny sitting on Brandon's chest, holding him down in a schoolboy pin and flexing his big biceps like the muscleboy he is.  The defeated jobber boy is forced to look on in admiration.  No fucking respect!!!  Boys, if you want a lesson in how to be a heel, then watch this match.

Vinny clobbers the jobber with a big bodyslam!

Zuper Z-Man

My previous post made me think about how much I love an over the knee backbreaker.  Like I said the last time, it's hard to beat the sight of a muscle dude in a singlet snapping the spine of his opponent over his knee.  It's also hard to beat watching underwear model and musclestud Zack Vazquez doing the same thing.  Here is a match from BG East a few years ago where the Z Man does just that to Kip Sorrels.  I love how dominant Zack is as he easily scoops up the little muscleboy and shows no mercy as he drops him hard across the knee.

The best part is how the little bitch helplessly kicks his legs before Z Man snaps his spine.  Awesome!

Tyler Reese

Tyler Reese was a wrestler at BG East.  He made a big impression on me years ago when I was in high school.  I had already discovered BG East at that point.  The internet was such a wonderful thing for a teen age boy at the time.  So, why the impression?  In his first few matches, he wrestled as "Tarzan" Tyler Reese, complete with the long hair and loin cloth.  Wow.  Even before I knew about BG East, as a kid I remember being drawn to Tarzan in the movies, taking pleasure in watching the jungle boy in action for reasons deep inside me that I did not then understand.  I staged fantasy wrestling matches in my mind, Tarzan in nothing but a loin cloth, wrestling other fictional characters (Tarzan wrestling Spider-Man especially was a favorite).  I even imagined myself wrestling in a loin cloth.  I was a wrestler at the time, so that seemed natural enough.  Then later Tyler Reese appeared on the scene at BG East, long hair and loin cloth and all.  He was a fantasy come to life (just too bad he never wrestled a guy in a Spider-Man costume).

Reese wrestled for a few years at BG East, and he eventually dropped his Tarzan persona.  But I remained a fan.  I actually like him better with the shorter hair anyway.  One match of Reese's that has stayed with me through the years is his match against Brendan Byers, which is featured above.  Byers is taller and bigger, but Reese is totally alpha, and he dishes out several bodyslams on his hapless opponent.  That in and of itself makes it a great match in my book.  But the cherry on top is Reese wrestling barefoot and wearing the mask.  That fucking mask!  It's awesome.  He's no longer Tarzan, but with the mask Reese is still a fantasy character come to life.

I have to admit, I like to imagine that's me being scooped up and bodyslammed in this match.  After all these years, the Tyler Reese fantasy still lives on in my mind.

Blaze

I want to return to BG East wrestling.  Not long ago in my post about Mike Columbo I mentioned how BGE did a good job of recruiting bodybuilding wrestlers and putting them in the ring for some entertaining pro-style action.  Here's another dude who is worth checking out.  His name is Blaze, and at 6' 2" and 200 pounds he's a total beast in the ring.  As best as I can tell, he completely dominated his opponents, often times with bodyslams, which of course I like to see.  This is my only exposure to Blaze.  I'm not sure what became of him.  He seems to be the type who could have had a great wrestling career in several underground companies, but it looks like he only wrestled at BGE.  So, great work by the talent scouts at BGE for finding this guy.

Blaze of course is a muscleboy, so he's licensed to flex those big guns for us.  You kids at home don't try this.  Leave it to the professionals!

Mike Columbo

I don't feature BGEast wrestling as much as I should in my blog, but over the years they have produced some good pro-style matches featuring strong bodybuilders in action.  The talent for these matches is similar to what Thunders Arena likes to offer, but BGE is a little different in that these guys usually wrestle in a ring instead of on mats.  I think the ring setting opens up the action a little more.  The dude we see here is Mike Columbo, who is billed variously at 5' 6" or 5' 7" in his matches.  I think we all know this type of guy.  Mike was probably very small and skinny as a kid, but one day he figured out how to build muscle.  And WOW did he build it!  And once Mike got his muscles, he liked to show them off, and what better place to do so than in a wrestling ring where you get to bodyslam and rack other dudes?

I like how his two opponents here have smiles on their faces.  I wonder what it is about wrestling Mike that brings them so much joy.  No doubt watching him wrestle is a joy, and I thank BGE for giving him a venue to show off.  And speaking of showing off, Mike is a true muscleboy, so he's certified to do this:

Braden's Encore

After my last post the fans begged for more of Braden, and who am I to say no?  So here you go with a bonus collection of photos from the ripped wrestler's domination match against Bart Barron.  Braden starts off by flexing those big biceps of his, and then he shows us what biceps are good for by punishing his lesser opponent.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here are five thousand words for you.  Enjoy!

Braden the Beast

Let's revisit our Wrestler of the Year Braden Charron.  My last post that featured him was all about how the new guy Braden got owned by the experienced heel.  But Braden doesn't always play the role of a jobber.  In an early match of his back in 2007 at BG East Braden faces off against a dude named Bart Barron.  We've all probably seen pictures of a big, beefy Braden, but in this match, he's leaned down considerably and is ripped.  Clearly he's in bodybuilding competition mode when this match filmed, which probably had an effect on his ring persona.  To prepare for a competition, bodybuilders enter a cutting phase where they greatly control their diet to drop body fat.  This is similar to what wrestlers do when they cut weight during wrestling season.  Cutting back on food and drink and calories to drop weight does several things to a wrestler.  You can end up weak and without energy, which is not good when it's time to wrestle.  But often times the hunger makes you angry, mean, and almost animalistic.  You tap into the beast inside you to give you the strength and stamina needed to train and compete.  It looks like this is what happens to Braden in this match.  He's lean.  He's hungry.  He's a beast.  Braden can barely control himself as he tears into his soft opponent.  If not for an advantage Bart gained by a cheap shot at one point in the match, it would have been a total squash job.  But ultimately Bart's cheap shop just angers Braden more, and the muscle stud makes the jobber pay for it in the end.  In doing so, Braden shows why bodybuilders can make such awesome wrestlers.
