Muscle Monday

My last post was inspired by an idea I stole from Bruno's Beefcakes of Wrestling blog.  Since that worked so well, I'm going to steal another idea from him and feature Brian Cage in a Muscle Monday post.  But this one is a double dose of muscle as we get to see the experienced bodybuilder pro wrestler appear in the ring with bodybuilder newbie Travis in a recent match at Thunders Arena.  Travis is still learning the ropes of wrestling, so TA sends him into the ring to be coached by Joey King, but is it really fair to have the young kid face off against a monster like Brian Cage?  Up to now Travis has been able to rely upon his massive muscles to get the better of smaller opponents despite his lack of wrestling skills.  But how much help will his big muscles (and flexing) be when wrestling the 6' and 255 pounds Brian Cage, who has no shortage of muscles to go along with his years of ring experience?  Looks likeTravis isn't the only one who gets to flex in this video.

Travis

Thunders Arena always does a great job of finding wrestling talent.  Not long ago a new kid appeared on the mats named Travis.  He's a young muscled up dude at 5' 8" and 200 pounds.  TA describes Travis as a ripped bodybuilder but a terrible wrestler (he's even had to take wrestling lessons from Austin Cooper).  So I decided to check out his first match against Zman to make up my own mind about the dude's skills as a wrestler.  Maybe expecting the worse, I was surprised to see Travis doing a good job.  I wouldn't call him a terrible wrestler at all, but I will say that he doesn't quite understand wrestling, at least not just yet.  Travis is a bodybuilder, and he's all about his muscles.  So for him a wrestling match is not so much about competition and using skill and technique to better another guy.  Instead, it's just another stage for him to show off his muscles.  With virtually every wrestling move and hold, Travis finds the opportunity to show off his impressive physique.  With biceps like that, he's looking for every chance to flex them.

Of course, there's one move that's pure wrestling and allows you to show off your muscles, and that's the gorilla press.  Fortunately for us, Travis at least understands this much about mixing his muscles with wrestling, and to Zman's dismay, he doesn't pass up the opportunity to show off.

So, maybe Travis' wrestling skills aren't top notch for the time being.  And perhaps he doesn't quite appreciate the point of wrestling just now.  But he's young and has plenty of time to learn.  I'd say his future at Thunders Arena looks promising.  Let's hope it includes many more spectacular gorilla presses like this.

Wrestling Practice

As with any sport, the best way to learn how to wrestle is through practice.  I remember as a kid going to practice and learning from the guys who had more experience, and as I got older and better, I liked to share some of my techniques with the newer wrestlers.  The same is true in the world of internet wrestling, as we see from Thunders Arena who gives us a little insight into the training of a new wrestler.  Many of you guys probably are familiar already with Travis, a recent addition to the TA roster at 5'8" and 200 pounds.  To borrow TA's own words, Travis is a young, ripped bodybuilder, but he's a terrible wrestler.  So what better way for him to improve than to practice with an experienced dude like Frey?  Mr. Mike at TA was kind enough to give me a sneak preview of this video where Frey tries to teach Travis a thing or two.  It's almost as if TA created this video just for my blog, because Frey begins with the bodyslam, having to show Travis several times before he gets it right.  But Travis proves to be a good learner.  If you are into muscle on muscle wrestling and lift and carry moves, then you are going to love watching Frey teach Travis some of his favorite techniques.  And in the process you'll learn Travis' secret potion for achieving such a muscular body.

Not long ago in another post I wished that Travis would face off in a match against Tak so he could gorilla press the smaller guy.  But Travis obviously has other ideas.  When you are a muscle stud like he is, why waste your powers on a scrawny dude when you can press another musclestud overhead?

You know, when you can gorilla press a dude like Frey, you have earned the right to flex.  Remember kids, don't try this at home.  Leave it to the professionals.
