A Singlet Does Not Make The Man

I blogged recently about wrestling gear and even praised dudes wearing singlets.  But just wearing a singlet doesn't necessarily make you a wrestling stud.  Case in point is Luke Harrison of Rock Hard Wrestling and his match against Brodie Fisher.  The boy Luke shows up in the ring clad in a singlet, but that doesn't really give his 5'10" and 140 pound body much of an advantage against Fisher's solid 5'8" and 170 pound muscular physique.  Luke gets clobbered, which just goes to show that it's not really the singlet but rather what goes into the singlet that matters most on the wrestling mat.  Check out this link for more great pics of Luke being manhandled by Brodie.  It's no surprise the kid ends up like this.

Backbreaker Sunday

The dudes at Rock Hard Wrestling, No Rules Wrestling, Thunders Arena, and other internet based wrestlers make wrestling look like a bunch of fun and games, all for our entertainment.  But truth be told, like the above pictures show, sometimes wrestling can be hard, backbreaking work (ha ha, get it?  backbreaking?).  But then other times, as we see below, it's just pure unadulterated fun.

Brodie Brings It

It's hard to believe that it is already October.  The year has gone by fast.  At the end of last year, I crowned Brodie Fisher of Rock Hard Wrestling the Wrestler of the Year for 2013, but it seems like he has kept a low profile in 2014.  I think he's appeared in just one match this year, so maybe he has moved on to other things.  It would be a shame to not see him wrestling anymore, but then again, sometimes to old has to make way for the new, and RHW has brought onboard some stunning new talent recently, like Dash Decker and Bruce Ballard.  I'm pretty confident those two dudes will give me some good material to blog about soon.  But back to Brodie, here he is above delivering some slams and backbreakers in a match against Colt Palmer.  It's not really much of a match to be honest.  Except for a few minutes of boxing at the beginning, Colt doesn't really fight back.  That's my kind of opponent.

On another note, the photo below comes from a recent college wrestling match in California, and I love it!  A lot of ingredients go into making a successful wrestler, such technique and skill, strength and muscles, drive, and a good dose of insanity.  A cocky attitude is also essential for success in wrestling, and this photo captures that perfectly.

Wrestler of the Year 2013

The winner of the coveted Wrestler of the Year Award for 2013 is none other than Brodie Fisher of Rock Hard Wrestling!  Actually, I didn't put much thought into this because I came across this photos of Brodie in action against Luke Harrison and happen to be posting them at the end of the year.  Although the honor I've given him is somewhat random, Brodie really executes a good looking bodyslam here, one of the best I've seen all year.  And I have been impressed with his other wrestling matches this year, so I'd say he deserves the honor as much as anyone else.  Let's hope Brodie continues to entertain us in 2014.

Wonder Twins

 

I hope you don't mind if I talk some more about the tag team wrestling match at Rock Hard Wrestling featuring the Wonder Twins Alex Waters and Brodie Fisher against Josh Steel and Brian Baker.  I call Waters and Fisher the Wonder Twins because they look so much alike to me.  And like twins, they wear matching wrestling singlets in this match.  Very nice.  I like this match a lot.  It's a fun one to watch.  The numerous lifts, carries, and slams that the Wonder Twins execute during the match provide a nice quality to the action.  Brodie Fisher does most of the heavy lifting, especially by bodyslamming the much larger Brian Baker on more than one occasion.  Fisher also gets a good OTK backbreaker on Josh Steel.  Early in the match you can tell Alex Waters wants to mimic Fisher's feats of strength by dishing out similar punishment, but he appears unsure of himself and switches to different moves.  But eventually Waters gets Josh Steel in a good crotchlift, parades him around the ring, and delivers a very respectable powerslam (is there ever a powerslam that isn't respectable?).  In the end, the Wonder Twins earned the right to flex their muscles over their defeated opponents.  All in all, it is a great match, and it has created some buzz in wrestling blogsphere.  To read more about it, check out Joe's Ringside blog, and there's also a write up at the Neverland blog.  You can see the entire match at RHW.

Life of Brian

I want to revisit the theme of my recent post about the tag team match at Rock Hard Wrestling featuring Brian Baker and others.  The gist of my last post was that Baker may be a jock, but that doesn't make him a wrestler.  He really seemed out of place in the ring while he got owned by Brodie Fisher and Alex Waters.  The whole match is a fun one to watch, and there's one part in particular I liked.  Brodie Fisher (I think) scooped up the much larger Baker and parades him around the ring.  Baker's tag team partner is Josh Steel, who has a wrestling background according to his bio at RHW.  He just looks on and taunts Brodie, and the two of them exchange barbs (Alex in the background joins in, too).  All the while, Baker has this "what the fuck am I doing here" look on his face as he awaits the inevitable bodyslam.

Jocks and Wrestling

There's a new match at Rock Hard Wrestling that's worth checking out.  It's a tag team match with Alex Waters and Brodie Fisher going up against Brian Baker and Josh Steel.  Alex and Brodie appear in wrestling singlets.  A nice touch.  Brodie sets the tone early for the match by bodyslamming Brian Baker (at least I think it's Brodie - he and Alex look alike).  This is no small feat because Baker outweighs Brodie by over 30 pounds.  According to RHW, Baker has no wrestling experience, but he was a college athlete.  This made me think back to high school where a lot of dudes who played other sports wanted to wrestle me.  Maybe it's the muscles and testosterone that make most jocks think they can wrestle, but they usually learned pretty fast that a wresler is a different breed of jock.  My wrestling matches with these dudes who played football or baseball or ran track did not have the drama of a RHW match, but it never took too long before I put these guys on their back for a pin, which I then followed with some body crushing python hold just to let them know what wrestling was all about.  So, seeing "athlete" Brian Baker wrestling Brodie Fisher brought back these memories.  At least with the first bodyslam, Baker obviously is outmatched, despite his big size advantage.  I love that look of confusion on Baker's face as Brodie takes a hold of his crotch to lift him up.  If you're not a wrestler, then you're probably not going to react too well to being held like that.  And Baker has no idea what to do as Brodie carries him around the ring, clearly not expecting to be manhandled like this.  Brian Baker may know how to spike a volleyball and throw a javelin, but that doesn't make him a wrestler.

The Wrestler Factory

Recently I was taking a look at the preview video for a match at Rock Hard Wrestling featuring Brodie Fisher (top photo) and Alex Waters (second photo).  In general there are a lot of similarities among the wrestlers at RHW because most fall into the college jock category, and I think this is especially the case for Brodie Fisher and Alex Waters, who have a striking similarity to each other.  It makes me wonder if there's a factory somewhere in China that churns out these wrestlers for RHW.  Seriously, can you tell these two dudes apart?

The Boys of Winter

This week on ESPN I saw something about spring training starting up and how the baseball season and the "boys of summer" are just around the corner.  It reminded me of back in high school when during wrestling season we liked to call ourselves "The Boys of Winter" (the guys on the hockey team probably had a difference of opinion).  It still being February, it's much too soon to be thinking baseball, so this is a tribute to boys who like to wrestle, and in particular the dudes at Rock Hard Wrestling.  There's no stupid drama here, no glitzy outfits or fancy light shows.  It's just a bunch of athletic dudes who don't mind dishing out some pain (or even receiving it) in that great competition that is wrestling to prove who the better stud is.
