Flashback: Cody Nelson

Back in July I passed a major milestone, marking ten years since starting this blog.  It came and went without me even realizing it, but I'm confident the loyal followers of my blog (all 17 of them) took notice.  I have to admit I'm surprised I've been doing this for so many years.  I'm not really sure why I keep at it, other than it's a nice little creative outlet.  To be honest, I do this blog primarily for my own benefit, but rest assured I get satisfaction in knowing that my loyal followers (all 17 of them) enjoy it almost as much as I do.

To commemorate over ten years of this blog, I decided to highlight Cody Nelson, who was one of my favorite wrestlers from the early days.  Heck, Cody remains one of my favorites even to this day.  Rock Hard Wrestling introduced us to the awesomeness that is Cody, and the stud appeared in several matches there.  Highlights in this post are from his matches against Troy Nelson (his brother), Travis Storm, Brody Hancock, Jeff Hollister, and Max Powers.  For me, Cody's appeal was his confidence, masculinity, and good looks, which are all the things I want to see in my perfect heel.  Plus, he was great at delivering bodyslams and backbreakers.  In the ring, Cody always delivered.  If the new generation of underground wrestlers want to see how it's done, then they should look no further than Cody Nelson.

This is how a real muscleboy flexes!

Hail to the Muscle Gods!

Who's ready for another post dedicated to the over-the-knee backbreaker?  I could probably do about fifty posts on this wrestling move, but I'll just stop at two for now.  I drew upon the image of a "muscle god" in my last post to refer to a wrestler who likes to sacrifice his opponent over the knee.  As I look over these two posts, I realize there are so many muscle gods in wrestling.  It's such a popular move that you see it in all the underground wrestling companies I like to follow.  On this page alone we got Rock Hard Wrestling, Muscleboy Wrestling, Wrestler4Hire, 88 Wrestling, Thunders Arena, and NRW Wrestling.  The new Weekend Wrestling absolutely loves the OTK backbreaker, and at Untamed Creations (which I just started following recently), those boys are breaking backs all over the place!

And looking at these photos I see so many of my favorite wrestlers doing the move.  I have to say that Scrappy is one of the best at breaking backs, but guys like Tanner Hill (aka Cena), Dante, and Cody Nelson always impress when they do it, too.  And I love the first pic in this post where Jake Jenkins plays muscle god by breaking Austin Cooper's back.  Cooper is no slouch himself in the world of wrestling, but it just goes to show that even muscleboys can find themselves sacrificed to muscle gods.

Monday Madness

I've blogged before about Cody Nelson being one of my favorite wrestlers, and here are some more pictures from his match against Bam Bam at Thunders Arena.  The action comes from the Bodybuilder Battle series.  Now, while these two dudes are pretty muscular, they aren't as built as the bodybuilders TA likes to feature these days.  Actually, watching the match you see that Cody and Bam Bam are more athletes than bodybuilders, and that's why I like this one so much.  There's nice back and forth action, and both wrestlers exhibit good skills.  And of course, there's an awesome lift and carry scene where Cody scoops Bam Bam up, parades him around the room, and then delivers a nice over the knee back breaker.  That's why this match has a five star rating in my own personal wrestling library.

Although I am showing Cody off in the photos above, let's not forget that Bam Bam is no pushover.  He gets in some pretty good moves on Cody, too:

There's a lot to like about this match, so I recommend you check it out.  Now's a good time to do so because TA is doing a storewide sale today.  The price of all matches are reduced, so don't forget about all the other great matches TA has been producing for the past ten years.

Where's Cody?

I came across these pictures recently.  They come from a match at Thunders Arena between Cody Nelson and Bam Bam that's probably a couple years old at least.  Cody was an early favorite wrestler in this blog.  He's even the dude in my profile picture setting up a nice looking bodyslam on his brother.  Cody appeared in several wrestling matches at Rock Hard Wrestling where he established himself as an alpha dog while helping the new RHW make a name for itself.  You can also find Cody in a few more matches at TA.  But it's been a few years since I've seen him in any new wrestling action, so I guess he has moved on to other things.  I know he's been a featured male model at All American Guys, which you can see below, and I hear he's now getting into acting.  If we're lucky, maybe Cody will return to the wrestling ring again sometime soon just to give his fans one more show.  If you're out there somewhere reading this, Cody, how about it?

By the way, Cody isn't the only wrestler featured in this blog who has appeared on sites like All American Guys.  Can you find some of the others?

Backbreaker Sunday

The dudes at Rock Hard Wrestling, No Rules Wrestling, Thunders Arena, and other internet based wrestlers make wrestling look like a bunch of fun and games, all for our entertainment.  But truth be told, like the above pictures show, sometimes wrestling can be hard, backbreaking work (ha ha, get it?  backbreaking?).  But then other times, as we see below, it's just pure unadulterated fun.

Backbreakers

Sometimes there's no need to say much about the wrestling photos I post to my blog.  The action caught on camera just speaks for itself.  Each and every one of these pictures is a study in awesomeness.  I love the OTK backbreaker.

Spring Break

I've been doing this blog for almost three years now.  At one time I had the idea that I should blog every day, but even blogging a few times a week has been difficult.  I'm impressed with guys like Joe at Ringside and Bruno at Beefcakes who can produce so much material on a regular basis.  For me, some months the inspiration is there, but other months it is a struggle.  My decision to do a blog just focused on bodyslams doesn't make it any easier, either.  Luckily there are several sources to inspire me, like the wrestlers at Rock Hard Wrestling, and a lot of times I probably should just let the action photos speak for themselves.  For now, though, I think it's time to take a break from blogging, at least until the wrestling muse reappears.  And when he does come back, I better take a hold of him like these dudes at RHW are doing to their opponents.  I'm going to shake him as hard as I can until I get every last drop of inspiration out of him.  See you guys in a few weeks.
