Flashback: Cody Nelson

Back in July I passed a major milestone, marking ten years since starting this blog.  It came and went without me even realizing it, but I'm confident the loyal followers of my blog (all 17 of them) took notice.  I have to admit I'm surprised I've been doing this for so many years.  I'm not really sure why I keep at it, other than it's a nice little creative outlet.  To be honest, I do this blog primarily for my own benefit, but rest assured I get satisfaction in knowing that my loyal followers (all 17 of them) enjoy it almost as much as I do.

To commemorate over ten years of this blog, I decided to highlight Cody Nelson, who was one of my favorite wrestlers from the early days.  Heck, Cody remains one of my favorites even to this day.  Rock Hard Wrestling introduced us to the awesomeness that is Cody, and the stud appeared in several matches there.  Highlights in this post are from his matches against Troy Nelson (his brother), Travis Storm, Brody Hancock, Jeff Hollister, and Max Powers.  For me, Cody's appeal was his confidence, masculinity, and good looks, which are all the things I want to see in my perfect heel.  Plus, he was great at delivering bodyslams and backbreakers.  In the ring, Cody always delivered.  If the new generation of underground wrestlers want to see how it's done, then they should look no further than Cody Nelson.

This is how a real muscleboy flexes!

The Other Face of Wrestling

Newton's third law says that every action has an opposite and equal reaction (I had to google that - I'm not a science guy).  In my last post I talked about the expressions of triumph on the alpha wrestler.  But for every dominant wrestler, there's a dude getting dominated.  We see them here.  In reaction to the cocky, arrogant sneers of their tormentors, these guys' faces are opposite expressions of anguish, dismay, and shattered dreams (soon to be followed by shattered backs).  At least in the world of real wrestling, you don't want to admit that there's someone who is bigger and stronger and better than you.  And when you do come up against that guy (as almost all of us have), it can shake your faith.  This is the moment that seperates the posers from the real wrestlers.  The poser gives up and goes home.  The real wrestler is motivated to work even harder so it doesn't happen again.

The Face of Wrestling

There's a certain intoxication you get when you take control of another dude in a wrestling match with a power move like a bodyslam.  It's brought on by the mixture of sweat, muscle, and testosterone and reaches a peak as you lift your opponent off the mat.  The sensation is so overpowering that you can't keep it hidden.  An expression comes across your face, a look of cockiness, arrogance, a sneer, a barely contained rage.  Perhaps a combination of them all.  It's the face every alpha male wrestler strives for.

The Awesome Backbreaker

I know I've been kind of slow on the posts lately, but summer does tend to offer a lot of distractions.  Wrestling has been one of them, and I've found a few good regular wrestling buddies that have been keeping me busy with fantasy prostyle matches.  I've been getting in good bodyslams on all of them.  One dude in particular loves for me to bodyslam him, and another dude loves to bodyslam me.  All in all, it's been a lot of fun.  I've been having the most fun with OTK backbreakers.  There's just something about scooping up a dude, walking him around the mat, then bringing him down over your knee.  Stretching the body.  Hearing the back snap, crackle, and pop.  It's been pretty awesome.

Travis Storm

Another good match to check out at Rock Hard Wrestling is Travis Storm against Chris Cox. Storm ultimately gets Cox to submit with an otk backbreaker. It's late in the match. Both wrestlers are covered in sweat. No doubt they are exhausted, but they have to fight on. Storm takes control when he picks Cox up and parades him around the ring. As he does this, Storm lets out several gutteral, "woof"-like barks. He's tapped into some primal energy deep within him that allows him to keep fighting on, and it gets him the win. This is classic wrestling. Awesome.

Rock Hard

The past couple of years have seen several male wrestling video companies pop up on the Internet. One such company is Rock Hard Wrestling, and while the quality of the wrestling is not quite as good as what you might see on BGEast, they still do a pretty good job of things. Rock Hard's best asset may be its stable of young wrestling talent, and these muscle guys are definitely easy on the eyes. Here we have wrestler Cody Nelson, who enjoys scooping up his opponents now and then with a good crotchlift on the way to a solid bodyslam or painful OTK backbreaker.
